The biological meaning of an animal, or human is one that has completely matured. Within the human realm, adult refers to legal and social concepts. As opposed to a "non-adult" or "minor" an legal adult has reached the age of majority. They are considered autonomous, self-sufficient and dependable. The word "major" can be applied to these individuals. The typical age of attaining legal adulthood is 18, but the definition can vary based on the legal rights of the country and the level of development in psychological terms.

The age of adulthood marks the point in the human lifespan when an individual has reached maturity in terms of both physical and mental development. Adulthood, as typically understood, is at the age of either 20 or 21. Middle age starts at around 40 years and then it is followed by an elderly age of 60. As we grow older, there are three distinct phases early adulthood (18-30 years), Middle Adulthood (30-60 years) and finally, late adulthood (60%-60%). The physical maturation process is complete when we enter our early adulthood (20-40s) however, your weight and height could rise a bit. In the early years of adulthood, we attain the highest level of physical ability.
